Six year old Cassie had anticipated the usual buzz she got from meeting a complicated challenge head-on. She sat like a statue on a black leather couch. A day spent thinking about a theme for her upcoming 7th birthday in just a few weeks, but in vain. She spent nearly an hour getting comfortable in the wide leather chair while searching the net. She had the entire day to crank up her creativity to inspire her for new ideas and new ways of celebrating her birthday. Her mind wondered until she thought of the yellow and blue Minions. Her mom Gayle and her Mamu Gigi suggested something, but anyone acquainted with Cassie knew she would never be swayed once she has chosen something. Obviously, she’s a fan of those cute Minions.
Excitement had been her mood the next few days and it lingered for two weeks. They spent every day of the weekend to find a minion gown for her, yellow clothes for the rest of the family and other Minion items. It had been difficult to hide the extent of her excitement. She pictured the cute little Minions as they shopped for decorations and planed to celebrate Minions in cake form. Hmmm, I was a big fan of dressing up in a theme as a family when I was a kid as well.

Preparations
The doorbell rang. “I’ll go and see who it is,” Cassie said in a rush. She kept the chain lock in place and opened the door a crack. She was so relieved when she saw her mom’s friends. They came to give the party the look and feel of minion. The girls blew the blue, yellow, white and orange balloons. Then they drew eyes on the white and orange balloons and made Minion loom bands. As a final touch, Cassie’s uncle Philip made the Minion Head. It looked like a Minion shield to me, really cute. Cassie kept herself busy being creative as well. Later Philip helped the rest of the boys prepare the food. One of them is a chef, a close friend of Gayle and Philip. How cool, it made the preparations less complicated for the family. It was fun watching their creative side. It was the moment of releasing their energy, incredibly fun, unbelievably innovative.
Minion Party
Cakes and cup cakes were on the table and too cute to eat. On either side of the table were yellow and blue chocolates and lollipops. There was a minion arch from the ground to the ceiling, made of minion balloons of course. In the middle of the arch was the Minion Poster. Further left side of the table was the mouth-watering desserts. The whole family set up banquet tables as the serving area and laid out the table with every one of the serving dishes and utensils. The buffet-style allowed the guests to line up and choose which foods they liked, giving them access to the Filipino Dishes from both sides of the buffet tables.
Cassie wore the Minion Tutu Dress with a headband and looked great on it. The invited guests from kids to young people to adults were all dressed as Minions…Fun stuff, I just loved it.

Everyone was enjoying to the max. Adults were enjoying the food while having interesting and funny discussions. Children were busy playing fun and creative games. They enjoyed sucking the yellow and blue lollipops and their lips turned yellow and blue and back to yellow again and back to blue. Their cheeks were stained with those two colors. Hahahahaha….the kids looked so funny and lovable, I just loved them. They rode their bikes for a while and finally played the “Pukpok Palayok”, one of the traditional party games. It is better known as “Hit the Pinata or Hit the Pot”. A pot was hanging somewhere then Cassie was blindfolded and was given a stick. She turned around three times. The aim was to confuse her. She had to find and hit the pot which contained some goodies with confittes. Kids around her were giving her directions, to the right, to the left, go forward….Then she hit the Pinata and all the goodies came out and children gathered excitedly to pick those candies and chocolates. Combining the birthday party with the kids favorite animated movie truly made Cassie’s birthday a winning celebration.
